JUST A QUICKIE--- FOLLOW-UP

As promised here are the photos missing from last post.....

First up are the Pith Paintings--now that I've had a chance to really study the little paintings, they truly are gorgeous. So finely painted with both flora and fauna. Some even have caterpillars and other bugs, making them even more desirable. Roberto was really busy today picking up at auction and then working on stuff. We reorganized rooms and laid down a carpet (which meant removing everything from one entire section) and also hanging the paintings on the wall. Roberto is so fast--it would have taken me over an hour to hang the twelve paintings and he was done in about 15 mins.

The lilies are gorgeous and just look at the caterpillar climbing up the rose stem. Almost 200 years later, the colors are still brilliant and the paint looks fresh.

I believe this is an Indo-Chinese 18th or early 19thc. mounted Buddha. I'll have to do more research--as yet I haven't found anything quite like it. But it is

very old and extremely heavy, which makes me think it is constructed of rosewood??? The figure needs a bit of work as the arm has an old break and one leg needs to be doweled back on. I have no idea exactly how old he is, but he will look fantastic beside my camels

And finally another shot of the Baker Knole sofa

The discrepany in the coloration of the sofa is due to the different lighting conditions---but doesn't the sofa look fantastic adorned with the Fortuny pillows in a great complementary color. I love the way the sofa goes absolutely flat. (Definitely would not want teenage boys sleeping on that sofa)

Tomorrow it's off to auction preview again----I do not have an extra square foot to spare; so I can't buy any furniture.

TREASURE HUNTING--The Ups and Downs

This gorgeous Paul Evans "Skyline" dining table was front and center at the auction on Thursday. Needless to say, I want it very, very, very badly. The brass veneering was in very good condition and the burl veneering only had a couple of minor issues. My good friend, Gerry, decided that he would make an attempt to buy the table. The table sold for about $4200 and Gerry was the under bidder. Oh well, there's always a next time. Unfortunately, Paul Evans is really hot RIGHT NOW.

Although the table went to another dealer, I did bring home a few choice bits.....

I've been looking for a little desk to replace the my large English Campaign desk that's going to be restored next week. I saw a little kneehole desk, but really didn't pay much attention to it until I sat in front of the reverse side of the desk and realized that it was really old and that I should buy it. I hesitated because these English pieces aren't selling that well in California. I pulled this photos from 1stdibs, the desk I bought is similar, but not quite this good

So I will be going from a large double pedestal desk to this adorable little guy. This George III desk dates to c.1760--my desk has the same bracket feet--the hardware on this example is of the best quality and all original.  

Is everyone signing petitions, going to Town Hall Meetings, donating time and money?? Let's keep the pressure up. 

Jones is a mess--he's getting his hair done tomorrow. Then he can come back to work. He's a very big boy any way, but when you add 3 inches of hair everywhere, he looks like a giant and scares people at work (not good when the goal is to sell).

Must get to bed.

NO MORE STATUS QUO

Of course, this was not my first consideration when thinking about yesterday's march---but it is so appropriate for all of us in the design business. What is Trump's decor going to look like??? GOLD PLATED EVERYTHING. Tacky, tacky, tacky.

I wish I could have marched--but am having "band aid" back surgery next month...... not quite in marching form just yet.

The estimates of the massive numbers of walkers just keep going up. With this number of people coming together with the purpose of raising their voices for justness, there will most certainly be a shift in our collective consciousness. We all need to keep focused on the goal of maintaining our hard won freedoms; preventing a narcissistic man and his cronies from having an impact on our rights. I know that it is possible--with discipline, love of country and neighbor and courage.
